Google in China

This week`s news about Google planning to leave China unless it releases the censorship restrictions. Although it may sound noble, Google realises that the Chinese government will not bend so easily, but who ever thought the internet represents freedom. The international community did develop with the use of media, rapid communication and the internet, however it would be bizarre to think that the Chinese population does not know about human rights abuses, ethnic tensions, police violence etc.

In the West many do have unfettered access to the Internet, but they go shopping, read gossip, their favourite hobby, many things that pass the Great Firewall. When it comes to politically sensitive issues, the media and journalists may have access to all sorts of information, but it is ever rare that mainstream media will cover some stories unless some support has already been gathered or enough time has passed to allow such things to be forgotten.

Maybe the country moves a too slow pace in the views of Western capitalists, but it would be nothing more than humiliating to bow to their every demand.
Google knows it will end in making a compromise, so does the Chinese government. There won't be any heroes to cheer.
